Vice Chair Katrina Foley Provides Updates on Laguna Beach Fire Incident
ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — Yesterday, the City of Laguna Beach announced an active fire incident occurring in Laguna Beach near Rancho Laguna Road and Morningside Dr. The fire was successfully stopped and is no longer spreading in any particular direction, as of 5:08 p.m. yesterday. Orange County Vice Chair Katrina Foley released the following statement in response to updated information received by Orange County Fire Authority.
“I am grateful to hear that our fire suppression systems worked to contain the Rancho Fire quickly - thanks to the swift and coordinated response by fire crews in Laguna Beach, Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, and Orange County Fire Authority. Once communities were safely evacuated, several air and ground assets were deployed to suppress the flames, including our new Firehawks that hold more than 3,500 gallons of water and the Tivoli HeloPod, which pulled a total of 42,250 gallons of water. I’m glad to see the return on our investments into these added safety measures, preventing any structures from burning, and making the efforts of our fire crews more seamless.”
Approximately 3.6 acres were impacted by the fire. More than 25 ground resources remain in Laguna Beach today, continuing clearing efforts in the impacted area and ensuring safe conditions for nearby neighborhoods. A 13-year-old boy has been arrested for lighting the fireworks that caused the fire. Additional details remain under investigation by the City of Laguna Beach.
