Vice Chair Katrina Foley Announces $3 Million in Federal Funding to Strengthen Public Safety in Orange County
ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA – Today, Vice Chair Katrina Foley announced that the County of Orange secured more than $3 million in federal funding to support key public safety and infrastructure initiatives, following an agreement between the White House and Senate Democrats allowing several remaining appropriations bills to proceed. The House approved a package of bills today, funding several federal agencies and ending a partial government shutdown.
The package includes a $2,000,000 earmark from Congressman Dave Min for the Newport Harbor Patrol Building and Infrastructure Renovation, adding to the previously approved $1,031,000 earmark from Congressman Mike Levin for the OC Sheriff’s Department Fleet Modernization project.
"Early last year our office identified public safety projects experiencing delays due to a lack of local funding. Our office worked diligently to identify projects eligible for funding through the Community Project Funding process in the House of Representatives, allowing us to deliver on public safety promises made to residents while protecting our County budget," said Vice Chair Katrina Foley.
Vice Chair Foley continued, "Thanks to our work alongside Congressmembers Levin and Min, the House and Senate passed their two funding requests, bringing home more than $3 Million in funding from D.C. to modernize our Sheriff Patrol Vehicle Fleet and upgrade our Newport Harbor Patrol Building. We appreciate Congressmen Levin and Min for working across the aisle to invest in our public safety infrastructure."
Project Descriptions
- Newport Harbor Patrol Building and Infrastructure Renovation: Upgrades the OC Sheriff's Harbor Patrol building and infrastructure in Newport Harbor to accommodate new technology, enhance security measures and make necessary building improvements.
- OC Sheriff’s Department Fleet Modernization: Modernizes a portion of the vehicle fleets for OC Sheriff's Department and District Attorney's Office Investigators Unit.
The package now moves to the President’s desk, and President Trump indicated he will sign the legislation into law.
