OC Supervisor Katrina Foley Awards $200,000 Fifth District Discretionary Grant to Second Harvest Food Bank

ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — Orange County Vice Chair Supervisor Katrina Foley awarded a $200,000 Fifth District Discretionary Grant to Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County to expand food assistance programs serving vulnerable families, seniors, and working individuals across the Fifth District.

“Without consistent access to healthy, high-quality food, our children struggle to learn, parents struggle to work, and our seniors and veterans face worsening health and financial instability,” said Fifth District Supervisor Katrina Foley. “My office's investment ensures Second Harvest delivers nutritious food directly to families in need, building the foundation for health, stability, and economic mobility across our district.”

Discretionary grants allow County Supervisors to respond quickly and efficiently to urgent community priorities.

“This investment in the health of our community – versatile, healthy protein in the form of eggs – could not come at a more critical time and will support approximately 70,200 households,” said Claudia Bonilla Keller, CEO of Second Harvest Food Bank. “We appreciate Supervisor Foley’s commitment to our mission and our community.”

This $200,000 allocation represents the largest Fifth District discretionary grants awarded for hunger relief in recent years, underscoring Supervisor Foley’s commitment to addressing basic needs through strategic public investment.

Founded in 1983, Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County has served as a cornerstone of the county’s hunger relief network for more than four decades. The organization distributes food through a robust network of community partners and direct-service programs, reaching hundreds of thousands of residents annually.
