Supervisor Katrina Foley Thanks Firefighters After Forward Progress Stopped on Gibby Fire
ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — Orange County Supervisor Katrina Foley released the following statement after firefighters stopped the forward progress of the Gibby Fire near Ortega Highway in Rancho Mission Viejo.
“Tonight, our firefighters stopped the forward progress of the Gibby Fire after attacking it aggressively from the ground and air,” said Vice Chair Katrina Foley. “OCFA firefighters and hand crews moved quickly to protect Rancho Mission Viejo and surrounding communities, while helicopters used the San Juan Capistrano helopod our office helped fund and opened in 2023 to get water to fires faster in South Orange County. I am grateful to our firefighters, OC Sheriffs, OC Parks employees, and partner agencies who worked to protect Rancho Mission Viejo and surrounding communities.”
Fire crews will continue working in the area to strengthen containment and address remaining hazards. Residents should continue following official emergency instructions and give first responders room to work safely.
