OC Vice Chair Katrina Foley Joins OC Transportation Authority for San Clemente Beach Trail Reopening
ORANGE COUNTY, CALIFORNIA – Today, Orange County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair and OCTA Director Katrina Foley joined Orange County Transportation Authority to celebrate the completion of a major coastal rail protection project and the reopening of the popular pedestrian trail near Mariposa Point in San Clemente.
The project included construction of a catchment wall designed to protect the railroad tracks from falling rocks and debris from the adjacent coastal bluff. The work also allowed OCTA to restore and reopen the popular pedestrian trail alongside the railroad, reconnecting an important coastal recreational route for residents and visitors.
“For the people of San Clemente and neighboring communities, reopening this trail means restoring a connection that serves as an important part of everyday life along our coast,” said OCTA Director Katrina Foley. “At the same time, we know the work to protect this rail corridor must continue. Sand replenishment, shoreline protection, and strong partnerships at every level remain critical as we confront the ongoing effects of increasingly severe coastal conditions.”

The coastal rail line through San Clemente remains a critical link in Southern California’s passenger and freight rail network, carrying Metrolink and Amtrak Pacific Surfliner trains as well as freight traffic and military assets.
